Chaos at Raipur airport as Delhi flight cancelled at midnight

Raipur: Chaos prevailed at the Swami Vivekanand Airport here on Sunday night as authorities were forced to cancel the Raipur-Delhi bound flight of Indigo Airways (6E 454) due to inordinate delay of over six hours in its arrival from Bangalore.

The flight (Lucknow-Delhi-Banglore-Raipur-Delhi), scheduled to depart for Raipur 6.55 PM landed only past midnight due to series of late departures from Lucknow and Delhi owing to dense fog over the two cities. Since the flight was not cleared for take off to Delhi due to fog there, the authorities were forced to cancel it.

The cancellation led to a chaotic situation as over 100 harried passengers had heated arguments with the airline staff and the airport authorities over lack of information being provided to them and the delay in arranging for their accommodations for the night. The passengers were eventually shifted to private hotels in the city and provided meals.
