Coimbatore: The thermal scanner installed at the Coimbatore International Airport to screen passengers for Ebola more than 10 days ago has not been switched on yet. While airport authorities say the public health department is yet to appoint a technician to operate the machine, health department officials say they haven't used the machine because there are reports that the machine may be shifted to Kochi.
The thermal scanner installed at the arrival terminal of the airport to screen passengers coming from Singapore and Sharjah for high temperatures on November 22 is still not in use. "It is the public health department's responsibility to operate and monitor the machine," said a senior airport manager at the Coimbatore International Terminal.
"We have a doctor, paramedical staffer and sanitary officer present at the Ebola screening desk all through the night when international flights land, but they say that they do not know how to operate the machine," added the manager.
