Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, the AIU arrested a Mumbai-bound passenger with gold bars worth approximately Rs 17.33 lakh. The passenger, originally from Chennai, had arrived via Mumbai by AI-984 flight.
September 8: Three domestic passengers – Sakerde Ahmad and Mohammad Madani Shariff and lady passenger Riyana – had concealed 2.916 kg of gold on themselves. They were arrested by the AIU at Dabolim airport.
November 9: Three members of a Mumbai-based family – Ashok Pala, his wife Latta Bahen and son Bavik Pala – were caught smuggling 12 gold bars at Dabolim airport.
