Pune Inc gets own airport terminal

Pune: With the Pune airport expansion plans being fasttracked, the corporate sector is all set to get its own independent terminal at the airport to operate nonscheduled flights. The work is in its final stages and the new terminal will be operational once the security audits are complete.

There are many businessmen and industrialists, who use the Pune airport for their own private aircraft. The new terminal will cater to these people and will be located near the existing departure terminal along with a specialised lounge for commercially important persons (CIP). The system will be decentralised and entry, exit and security checks will be conducted separately for these nonscheduled flights. "All required systems like X-ray machines, CCTV cameras and other infrastructure will be provided and operated by the Pune Airport Authority. Once these systems are installed, a security audit will be conducted," said a senior AAI official on condition of anonymity.

SK Jain, president of the Airport Committee of the Maratha Chamber of Commerce, Agriculture and Industries, said, "It will be beneficial for private aircraft as well as regular flyers. The system of arrival and departure will be decentralised. The new terminal will be located at the extreme left side of the existing airport terminal."
