SpiceJet’s cancelled slots to go to rivals

SpiceJet is looking down the barrel of the gun. Tightening the screws further on the cash-strapped airline, aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has said it would consider allotting its cancelled slots to rivals like IndiGo, GoAir, Jet Airways and Air India.

This is likely to put off potential investors from putting their money in the Kalanithi Maran-promoted airline that requires immediate infusion of Rs 1,500 crore.

"If some airline approaches us with request for slots, we will consider giving (cancelled) them," DGCA Prabhat Kumar told Financial Chronicle.

The regulator cancelled 186 slots given to SpiceJet on Friday and restrained it from taking advance bookings beyond 30 days after the airline cut its fleet size drastically and cancelled flights closer to the date of flying.

The airline in a statement, however, said that there was no notification for refund bookings beyond 30 days.
