Vistara receives thumbs up from travel firms, portals

The Tata-SIA joint venture airline Vistara has received a thumbs up from travel houses and leading travel portals ahead of its inaugural flight next month. Both online and over-the-counter booking agents including MakeMyTrip and Inter Skylinks, have seen good initial response for advance bookings and expect the carrier to offer a robust product to air-travelers.

Vistara has positioned itself above existing full service carriers (FSCs) Air India and Jet Airways, together accounting for 36 per cent share in the domestic market, with the remaining controlled by low-cost carriers (LCCs) like IndiGo, SpiceJet and GoAir.

In the face of high operating cost and cutthroat competition, most airlines have been in red. The two low-cost carriers IndiGo and GoAir claim to be making year-on-year profits.

“People were looking forward to the launch of Vistara. We have seen decent traction for Vistara bookings,” said Ranjeet Oak, senior vice president-flights, MakeMyTrip.

Jagdeep S Rikhy of InterSkyLinks said that he had seen very good initial response for Vistara. “People are curious especially since the brand is associated with big names like Tata and Singapore Airlines (SIA),” he added.
