Airport Authority proposes 78% reduction in tariff

New Delhi: In a major blow to GMR-led Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), the company operating the Capital's IGI airport, the airport regulator Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India or Aera has proposed 78.24 percent reduction in airport tariff beginning February for the next five years.

The regulator has asked stakeholders to submit their responses by February 27 on the proposed tariff before passing an order determining aeronautical charges at the country's busiest airport for the second five-year control period (April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2019).

The proposed move is expected to benefit airlines and eventually to passengers as airport charges contribute 4-5% to an airline's total operating cost.
