Fog blinds Hyderabad, several flights diverted

Hyderabad: An unusual dense fog enveloped the city on Friday surprising Hyderabadis and forcing authorities to divert several flights as visibility dropped drastically at the Shamshabad airport.

For about five hours, the city wore a hill station-like look as cars moved with their fog lights on and people preferred to stay indoors.

"It was cold and I could hardly see anything on the road while driving in the morning for an hour or so. Many cars had switched on their parking lights near Jubilee hills," Sai Ganesh, a Banjara Hills resident, said.
Met officials said the fog formation began at 5.30 am hampering the visibility for commuters. Motorists were forced to drive in low speeds despite the streets remaining largely deserted in the morning.

Weather experts said the sudden spike in fog formation was a result of low night time temperatures coupled with increasing humidity levels. This in turn aided in condensation of the water vapour present in the air, they said.
