New Delhi: Vistara, the Singapore- Tata JV that starts services on January 9 is facing a 20 to 40 % discount offered on the inaugural day by rivals.
Air India and Jet Airways had started offering discounted tickets in December for travel in January. These discounts were for the routes where Vistara would start operation. The sharp fall offered by rivals is in economy class on the Mumbai-New Delhi–Ahmedabad route. Vistara has the price of economy class at around Rs 14,000 one way while that of a full service carrier is at Rs 12,000 and low-cost IndiGo at Rs 11,000. The difference in business class between all full-fledged carriers and Vistara is only Rs 1000. IndiGo does not have a business class.
Vistara has introduced a new class that is a cross between business and economy. It offers a little of both and is called premium economy. It costs Rs 24,000 one way in this class. No other airlines offers this. It comes with ticketing over Tablets, choice of a meal menu and frequent flier points on how much you spend in flight than on miles travelled. Travel agents say that this new class can get patronage if it is not more than 20% of the economy class.
