540g gold seized from flier at airport

Trichy: Immigration authorities arrested four passengers, who arrived at the Trichy International Airport in different flights, for allegedly trying to smuggle gold by hiding it in their rectums on Monday.

The arrested have been admitted at the government hospital here to undergo 'banana treatment'. According to immigration authorities, they expect to recover around 1,000g of gold from the arrested passengers. Authorities seized 540g of gold from Kethiswari, 48, one of the arrested passengers. She was scanned completely and sent to hospital to recover the gold. The recovered gold was estimated to be worth Rs 16 lakh.
