Chennai: A team of five engineering students from Hindustan University, Chennai have displayed an an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) at the Aero India 2015 held at Bangalore. This is expected to be the lightest UAV on display at Aero India 2015. The UAV, which weighs only 2.5 kg, has been named Draupadi after the mythological wife of the Pandavas in the epic Mahabharata.
“Draupadi” has been designed by students of the Hindustan Group of Institutions from Chennai and they have managed to reduce the weight of the UAV by 2 kg, using alternative materials in building the prototype. The UAV can be controlled electronically and live feed is received on a cellphone.
Last year the team participate in the International Micro Air Vehicles show held in the Netherlands.
Rejish Laljohson, one of the developers, said that the light weight of the prototype has considerably increased its flying duration.
