Kannur: District Congress Committee (DCC) president K. Surendran has alleged that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is trying to create hurdles in the ongoing construction work of the Kannur airport project by creating controversies.
In a statement here on Tuesday, Mr. Surendran said that the CPI(M) is creating obstacles with political motives. He said that it has been learnt from project officials that the work had been suspended 23 times as a result of protests by the CPI(M). The CPI(M), he alleged, is causing obstacles by staging protests alleging that the blasting of rocks in the project site is damaging houses in the vicinity. He said that the airport project officials complied with the earlier agreement that the rock blasting will be done in the presence of two representatives of the Keezhallur grama panchayat, which is ruled by the CPI(M).
The party, however, is creating panic in the minds of the local residents, Mr. Surendran added.
