Gold smuggler arrested at New Delhi Airport

New Delhi: A person has been arrested  at New Delhi International Airport for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold bars worth Rs. 1 crore.

The passenger was intercepted by customs officials after his arrival to Delhi from Bangkok on Monday. He was trying to smuggle the gold with the help of another man who works as a baggage service agent at the airport, the customs said.
The passenger had handed over four gold bars of one kg each to the baggage service agent after his arrival at the airport. The customs officials recovered the gold bars from the agent employed by a private firm.
The value of the seized gold is assessed to be Rs. 1.02 crore, the release said.
