Gold smuggling gang busted at Karipur

Kozhikode: Air Customs Intelligence and DRI officials at Karipur airport on Wednesday busted a gang that resorted to an ingenious mode of gold smuggling and recovered 6 kg of gold.

The gold was concealed inside the toilet of a private airline that came from Dubai. But departing from the earlier practice, the person who brought the gold did not take it out when the flight reached Karipur.

"After the international service, the flight goes for domestic services. Another person in the same gang was waiting at Karipur for boarding in the same fight. The plan was that he will take out the gold when the flight reaches Mumbai as there will not be any checking for smuggling for domestic flights," said Francis Kodankandath, superintendent, (Intelligence) Air Customs.
The information about the new modus operandi was revealed when the officials detained two persons - Abdul Adil who arrived from Dubai and Abdul Jalaludheen Sheikh who was about to board for domestic service.
