Government must make Airport infrastructure more investor-friendly: Fraport

Mumbai: German airport operator Fraport, GMR Infrastructure's long-standing partner at the Delhi airport, has said the Narendra Modi-led NDA government has not done enough in terms of reforms in regulation and policy to create a more conducive environment for investment in airport infrastructure.

"We, like everybody else, had high expectations when the new government took office last year. So far, though, I am not sure about real changes in this sector," Matthias Engler, project manager for global investments and management at Fraport, told ET in an interview.

To begin with, Engler said, the government should work on giving clearer guidelines to the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA). "Currently, a different set of regulations is proposed for different projects. It's quite an issue... Before a project is put out for bids, there has to be clarity on what the tariff regime will be," he said.
