Govt may give nod for airport in Bareilly soon

Bareilly: City's demand for a civilian airport may soon become a reality. The district authorities have claimed that the work for acquisition of land from farmers will begin from March for setting up a civilian airport in the city. The authorities at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) are learned to have assured senior officials of the district administration that state government will give clearance to the project this month.

The project has been in the pipeline for more than 10 years now. According to the plan, the airport is proposed to come up in Bareilly near Ahmednagar village at Pilibhit bypass, next to Indian Air Force's Trishul airport. The land earmarked for the airport will be registered under the Airport Authority of India's (AAI) name.

"In a recent meeting which took place in Lucknow to discuss the project, officials of DGCA have assured us that the government order regarding setting up of an airport would be released within this month," said Manish Kumar Nahar, sub divisional magistrate of Sadar and special land acquisition officer. He added, "Once we receive the government order in connection with airport, we will chalk out a policy and take appropriate action from March."
