Planes scrape mid-air at Bengaluru aero show, land safely

Bengaluru: A mid-air collision between two Flying Bulls aircraft right over the runway, very close to the tarmac area had the crowd bewildered for a few moments, but the pilots recovered to land safely harming nobody.

The aircraft though have been damaged, which was visible as they collided. The incident occurred during the second aerobatic session, at around 3.10pm, when tens of people stood near the tarmac enjoying the stunts. That there wasn't a crash luckily saw no one get injured.

Sixty six-year-old Radka, speaking exclusively to TOI had said on Saturday (February 14) that the team had to change the aircraft from the German-made XA42 to Zlin 50LX. "...We will be changing our aircraft soon. But I know it will be nothing like the ones we are using right now. I somehow like these, but safety mandates that we change," she had said.

Explaining the nuances, a serving Group Captain of the Indian Air Force (IAF) told TOI: "It happened when they were performing the wing over manoeuvre."
