Mumbai: It was a busy day at the airport on Tuesday with a rise in number of charter flights as politicians thronged Anjani village to attend former deputy chief minister R R Patil's funeral.
Other than the charter flights to interior Maharashtra, several unscheduled flights were bound for the air show in Bangalore. The airport, which handles about 780 flights a day on average, managed 840 take-offs and landings on Tuesday.
"Most of the unscheduled flights were bound for interior Maharashtra and then there were some for Bangalore," an aviation source said. On a couple of occasions earlier (because of cricket matches) the airport handled about 840-850 flights a day.
