Tejas simulator to help IAF pilots train in Sulur soon

Bengaluru: The Indian Air Force (IAF), which received the first light combat aircraft (LCA) from HAL recently is gearing up for training. And as is the practice on any new platform, they will first get used to the systems on a simulator, which is being developed by Team Tejas.

IAF squadron pilots will also get a revised/tweaked training manuals, as until now, only experienced test pilots have flown the LCA. "With the aircraft handed over to IAF pilots, some changes need to be made, as they did not want too many technology details in the manuals," a senior official said.

PS Subramanya, chief of Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), whose agency the lead agency for Tejas development said: "The simulator will be placed at Sulur in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore and the development is almost through."

A senior IAF official said that the first squadron on Tejas will be raised in Sulur. The simulator will be in the Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) configuration. The IAF will use 20 aircraft in this configuration and 20 more in the final operational clearance (FOC) configuration.
