Bengaluru: The deafening roar of soaring jets, agile aerobatic aircraft, hovering choppers... Aero India literally got off to a flying start, not seen during the previous edition's inaugural.
If Highway to Hell from rock band ACDC and Linkin Park's I've Become So Numb kept people entertained before the inaugural, it was Indian Air Force's (IAF) top gun Sukhoi-30MKI that ruled the skies during the flying display, beating all others hands down.
The Su-30, which flew to the theme music of the Tom Cruise-starrer Top Gun, has been the backbone of IAF's fighting arsenal.
Flying fourth after the light combat helicopter (LCH), it did its routine manoeuvres with high-speed flypasts to get warmed up.Then came the barrel rolls, loops and the vertical climb. But the show-stopper was the Cobra stunt, which saw the supersonic fighter literally come to a halt mid-air. This is one move the team proudly describes as: "Even the wind stops to stare..."
