Visa-on-arrival bringing in more tourists to Kochi

Kochi: The tourist visa on arrival (TVoA) scheme enabled with electronic travel authorisation, which was recently launched by the Central government for foreign visitors, is bringing dividends to the Cochin International Airport Limited.

According to officials, the airport witnessed a rise in the number of foreign travellers a month after the government extended the scheme to visitors from 43 countries on November 27 last year. A comparison of passenger movement after the scheme’s implementation showed a year-on-year growth of 34 per cent while it was 46 per cent when compared with the month before.

In absolute terms, the number of passengers rose from 23,659 in December 2013 to 31,813 in the same month next year. Similarly, passenger movement was just 21,733 during the 30 days before the scheme’s introduction.
