Expert team visits airport, report on underpass soon

Mysuru: The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will take a final call on the proposed underpass below the runway for Mysuru airport. The underpass was mooted to remove the need for acquiring land for diverting National Highway 212.

The proposed alignment for the extended runway would bisect NH 212, which connects Mysuru with Nanjangud and Gundlupet. As a result, the runway extension proposal has been held up. The other alternative was to divert the highway which required nearly 180 acres of land to be acquired.
C. Manjunath, director of Mysuru airport, told The Hindu that an expert team from the DGCA and the Airports Authority of India visited the airport recently and conducted an inspection.

The team also took note of security implications in case the underpass was given the green signal. However, the visiting team refused to commit itself to any decision stating that their mandate was to inspect and apprise themselves of the ground reality and submit a report.
