Malappuram: The haj flights from the state are likely to be operated from Nedumbassery airport, this year. The tender for providing air travel services for haj pilgrims invited by civil aviation ministry on Saturday gives the embarkation point for pilgrims from the Kerala as Kochi.
But the state haj committee is yet to receive any communication from civil aviation ministry, regarding this. If the flights operate from Kochi, the haj committee would shift the haj camp also to Kochi and the state haj committee would have to find a location for setting up the camp there.
It was the following decision of the airport authority of India (AAI) to suspend operation of wide bodied aircrafts for 15 months from Karipur Airport for carrying out repair works of the runway, the state haj committee approached aviation ministry and haj committee of India to resolve the confusion regarding the haj flight operation and embarkation point of Kerala pilgrims.
