Privatisation of airports: Govt postpones bid submission deadline

New Delhi: The ministry of civil aviation has pushed back by two months the deadline for submitting bids for award of operations, management and development contracts of airports at Kolkata, Chennai, Jaipur and Ahmedabad to private parties due to human resources-related issues.
Airports Authority of India chairman RK Srivastava (AAI) said, “There are many issues relating to human resources. A concerted decision has to be taken… Whatever are the concerns of the employees, they have to be addressed.”
He added though AAI was trying to expedite the privatisation process, service conditions of employees will not be ‘compromised with’.
The AAI employees union have been opposing the privatisation programme on the grounds that the move would lead to a decline in revenues for the state-owned authority and result in massive retrenchment of manpower.
