Air India cre unhappy with new uniforms, claims design dilutes identity

Mumbai: Air India's project to clad its crew in new uniforms by Baisakhi continues to be dogged by complications, with a majority of onboard staff yet to have theirs tailored owing to confusion over design and selection of dressmakers.

In an internal communication to its crew last week, Air India management had said, "The date (April 14) coincides with the onset of spring which is celebrated in various parts of the country in different forms viz. Baisakhi symbolising mustard which is a dominant colour in the new uniform."

On Monday, however, AI's Crew Management Services (CMS) units spread across airports told crew members - who expressed problems in getting the uniforms ready in time - they would be allowed to continue wearing their existing uniforms. This is the third time in the past few weeks that the transformation has been halted. Earlier April 22, 28 and May 14 were notified.

"New uniforms for cabin crew will commence from midnight (of April 13) and the complete transition to the new uniforms will be completed by the end of the month," an Air India spokesperson told Mumbai Mirror.
