Chennai: :In a curious stand-off between the police and the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the access road outside the arrival gates of both terminals remain closed to traffic.
In an ongoing issue that has stretched for over a month now, both parties have been going back and forth on whether the road is to be opened for ‘regular’ traffic, or not.
The road was closed last July, temporarily, in the run up to Independence Day. A situation that turned permanent because the police found that it really made their lives easier. Passengers now had to trudge about 40 feet to the parking lot to locate their rides, instead of having them pull up in the lane just outside the gate. After a series of meetings, the two parties who can make this happen appear to be at a stalemate.
On one hand, the police are remaining adamant that opening the road will lead to a logjam, causing a breach in the general security cover of the airport’s outer complex.
