Mumbai: All central government permissions for the Navi Mumbai international airport have been granted, chief secretary Swadhin Kshatriya said on Monday.
Seven permissions, from the environment and civil aviation ministries were received last month, a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's countrywide video-conference with chief secretaries. When Modi asked Kshatriya about the status of the airport project, he informed him that a miracle had occurred.
"The state received seven permissions a day before the Pragati (Proactive Governance and Timely Implementation of Schemes) conference, and only permission from the civil aviation ministry is pending," Kshatriya had inform-ed Modi.
He went on to explain that the permission pending was for the rehabilitation of 650 farmers, and the state government needed height clearance from the aviation ministry. Under the compensation package, every farmer will be given back 22.5% of the plot given for the project as developed land. Kshatriya said individual applications would have to be made on behalf of each farmer.
