Bihta airport can be an alternative to Patna airport: Rudy

Patna: Union minister of state for skill development and entrepreneurship (independent charge) Rajiv Pratap Rudy on Thursday pitched for expansion and commercial operation of Bihta airport, stating that the present Patna airport is unable to cater to increasing passenger needs and has no space for expansion.
At a meeting with Union finance minister Arun Jaitley and Union civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Rudy proposed that since the Indian Air Force (IAF)-run Bihta airport was the closest to Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport, Patna, it was the most feasible alternative for the latter. "Figures suggest over 2.18 lakh odd passengers used the Patna airport in 2005-06 which has increased to almost 10 lakh at present. Besides tall trees and high-rise buildings, the airport area has also become thickly populated. Neither is there any scope for expansion due to paucity of land," Rudy said.
