New Delhi: From February, the GMR Group-led Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), which operates the IGI Airport, has set up a simulator in Terminal 3. It is the first international airport in the world to offer passengers an opportunity to experience a flight simulator before boarding an actual flight.
Called The Cockpit, the ‘outlet’ is located in the duty free retail zone at IGI T3 and houses a state-of-the-art flight simulator. The simulator has a real size replica of the cockpit of a Boeing 737-800 aircraft. It allows passengers to occupy the pilot's seat and fly the aircraft under the supervision of a trained pilot. Since the theme of the area (what area is this?) is aviation, enthusiasts can also buy collectible souvenirs from Boeing and Airbus.
DIAL has provided the space for the simulator on long-term lease agreement on revenue-share basis to The Cockpit (didn’t understand this?). DIAL is a facilitator and mentor for the simulator, which also aims to educate passengers about the aviation eco-sphere. A 15 minute session of ‘flying’ a plane costs ? 2,500 plus taxes.
