Man offloaded without valid reason, airline told to pay him Rs 50,000

Chandigarh: The district consumer disputes redressal forum of Chandigarh has ordered a private airline to pay Rs 50,000 in compensation for offloading a passenger without any valid reason, holding that it was a case of deficiency in service.

In his complaint, R K Sharma, a resident of Sector 19, said that he had booked a ticket with Air India for travelling from Chandigarh to New Delhi, and New Delhi to Ranchi on May 21 last year. He said that when he reached New Delhi, he was told that the flight to Ranchi had already departed.
Realising their mistake, the Air India authorities arranged for him a ticket on a Jet Airways flight to Ranchi. Sharma said he boarded the Jet Airways flight after the security check, but the airline officials offloaded him without giving any reason. He had to buy another ticket on the spot to reach Ranchi.

In its reply, Jet Airways stated that Sharma was offloaded due to health reasons, after he informed them that he had undergone angiography recently and wanted a front seat on the flight.
