Miraculous escape for 70 Jet Airways flyers at Khajuraho airport

Bhopal/New Delhi: Around 70 people on board a Jet Airways' flight had a narrow escape when the aircraft's main landing gear broke after landing at Khajuraho on Monday.

The Boeing 737 (VT-JGA) got stuck on the runway and 59 passengers and eight crew members of this Delhi-Varanasi-Khajuraho flight were evacuated from the aircraft using safety chutes.

A Jet statement said all passengers of 9W-2423 "disembarked safely", something which Khajuraho airport director Kamal Sharma confirmed.

The Khajuraho airport became non-operational since the Boeing 737 remained stuck on the runway.

"It will take at least two days to resume flight movement at the airport. The plane is at the runway. It will have to be removed," Sharma told TOI.

An Italian tourist aboard the flight, Christina, told media that "she had a premonition that something might go wrong and when the plane landed, she felt as if it had crashed."

Cancellation of flights by Jet Airways left passengers rattled. Navneet Raman, a traveller from Varanasi, who had a flight on April 15 from Khajuraho said, "We are left with no option. We received a text from Jet Airways that our flight has been cancelled and we should get our tickets refunded. No arrangements were made for us".
