New Delhi: Instead of ending privileges given to MPs, the aviation ministry has perpetuated the VVIP culture at Indian airports.
Aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju on Monday told Parliament there was 'no' proposal to curtail the privileges and protocol for VVIPs including MPs at airports.
As a result, the minister listed the facilities that would continue to be accorded to Indian VVIPs. These include access to reserved lounges; free beverages and free access to terminals and visitors' area of airports.
Entry pass will be given to each MP's personal staff for the airport in the constituency and for Delhi airport. "One officer of airport is designated as protocol officer at each airport and is responsible for extension of all facilities/courtesies to MPs," Raju told Parliament.
The minister, who himself has refused to accept these privileges and takes a regular bus to aircraft with other passengers, said that the government keeps getting complaints on non-adherence of protocol from VVIPs.
