SpiceJet proposes to clear dues to AAI in three years

New Delhi: Crisis-ridden low-cost carrier SpiceJet has submitted a three-year payment plan to Airports Authority of India (AAI) to clear the latter's Rs 275 crore dues it owed on account of airport landing, parking, air-navigation and other support services.

The state-run airport operator has, however, refused to accept the payment proposal and asked the airline to give a revised plan.

Speaking to Financial Chronicle, a senior AAI official said that the authority would not give that long time to the airline.

“We have asked them to present a payment plan of shorter duration.” the official said.

Last week, SpiceJet had made a part-payment of Rs 25 crore towards airport dues. Ever since the financial crisis hit the carrier last December, AAI has been soft in recovering its dues. The airport operator has supported the carrier by extending credit in spite of the dues breaching the airline's bank guarantee.
