AAI seeks increase in charges levied on airlines for services at 82 non-major airport

New Delhi: Flying in and out of the country's 82 non-major airports is set to get costlier with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) seeking an increase in charges it levies on airlines for services and facilities. Charges at these airports mainly include landing and parking fees. They were last raised in 2001. Any increase in the charges will add to the cost of airlines, which usually pass them on to consumers.

"Our costs have increased and we have requested the civil aviation ministry to push for an increase," a senior AAI official said on condition of anonymity. "A detailed proposal will be submitted to the ministry for approval."

The AAI also requested for an increase in charges in a recent presentation to the civil aviation secretary RN Choubey.
