Hyderabad: The Capital Region Development Authority and the Krishna District administration have been empowered with the task of pooling land for the expansion of the Gannavaram airport near Vijayawada.
The airport located about 18 km from Vijayawada is proposed to be upgraded to an international airport.
The State Ministry of Municipal Administration and Urban Development has made CRDA a coordinating agency for land pooling as it had been entrusted with similar task for land pooling for the construction of a new capital city of Amaravati.
The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority Act was enacted in 2014 December for the purpose of planning, execution, financing and promoting the capital region and capital area for Andhra Pradesh.
