BIAL Revives Four Abandoned Wells

Bengaluru: Four abandoned wells inside the premises of the Kempegowda International Airport have been rejuvenated, thanks to initiatives for sustainable development undertaken here.

The age-old wells, which date back to periods ranging between 50 and 200 years, were totally dry when the airport commenced operations in 2008, say top officials.

“The wells today have a capacity to provide the airport with 800 to 900 kilo litres per day but we use it only as a supplementary to the water provided by BWSSB and our treated water or in cases of emergency,” a top official said.

Two more wells are in the process of getting recharged, he added.

Credit for this needs to be given to the massive Sewage Treatment Plant set up on its premises, which has a capacity to treat waste water to a maximum of 2 Million Litres  Per Day (MLD), the official said.
