Carrier held with gold bars worth 19L at airport

Ahmedabad:  The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs department held a Chennai-based man for smuggling 700 gram gold worth Rs 19.04 lakh on Friday morning at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Samsuddin R was nabbed with seven gold bars hidden in his rectum. This is the third incident of smuggling this month.

Samsuddin had arrived from Air India's AI-331 flight from Mumbai. "He is a carrier and was supposed to get Rs 20,000 for illegally bringing the gold inside the country. He had picked up gold from an international passenger in the toilet of Mumbai airport," said a Customs official.
