Hyderabad: The Union government, which is learnt to have agreed to bear the cost of land acquisition for expansion of existing airports at Vijayawada, Tirupati and Visakhapatnam, seems to have begun collecting data from the State government on the air passenger flow in these airports.
“The Ministry of Civil Aviation requested the state government to send the details of international air passenger flow to Tirupati airport. It sought these details from Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam on the bookings made for Tirupati by NRIs through internet,” the State government said in a press release on Sunday. “The Centre is seeking such details to know the approximate number of NRIs who visit Tirupati and Vijayawada every year so that it can consider for starting international operations in both the airports at the earliest,” it stated. Meanwhile, the state government is contemplating use of social media like Youtube and Facebook for getting response from NRIs on the proposal of starting international operations at Vijayawada and Tirupati.
