Kochi: The long-drawn cold war between Customs Officials and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) has come to the fore, with the Customs Intelligence Unit alleging that the CISF’s intervention often helped gold smugglers to decamp with the contraband, in connivance with a section of the ground staff at the airport.
The officials in a statement said the Customs team probing the recent seizure of 13 kg gold from two passenger buses operating on the airside of the airport had strong clues of the involvement of certain ground staff in the smuggling activity at the Airport. The Customs officials were blocked by the CISF personnel on the ground that they were not allowed to enter the domestic terminal of the airport.
