Civil Aviation Ministry wants CISF to shun rough frisking at airports

NEW DELHI: Has a security official ever hurt you with a handheld metal detector during frisking at an airport? The civil aviation ministry wants the practice to change after finding that rough frisking of an Airports Authority of India official with a hand-held metal detector led to clashes and the death of a Central Industrial Security Force constable at Calicut International Airport last week.
A preliminary inquiry report of the civil aviation ministry found that the primary reason for the clash, as depicted in recorded footage, was the rough frisking of the AAI official who protested and was beaten up by CISF sub-inspector Sitaram Chaudhary. The report also raises question about the stress faced by security personnel.
