Kozhikode: Even as Karipur Airport is all set to be partially closed from July 1 to facilitate the preparatory works for the proposed runway re-carpeting, public demand has been mounting to complete the works within a shorter time than currently scheduled.
According to the schedule, the airport will be closed for two hours daily from July 1.
The airport had banned the operation of wide-bodied aircraft from May 1 onwards, due to safety concerns. The commencement of the partial runway closure for re-carpeting works would necessitate revising the schedules of various airlines.
Meanwhile, political organizations and business groups have demanded the completion of runway strengthening works on a war footing. They said the current work schedule spanning around 18 months was too lengthy and unjustified.
