Fliers, both domestic and international, using Mumbai airport on Wednesday were confronted with unclean washrooms and a dirty terminal with all the three housekeeping staffers at Terminal 2 and Terminal 1 undertaking one of their biggest strikes. The staffers only undertook cleaning activity at the terminals in the afternoon- 4pm in T2 and 3.30pm at T1.
The strike was organised over salary dispute with the staffers demanding a hike in pay. While the cleaning crews are being paid Rs 8400 per month by the airport management, the staff claim that all house keeping staff should be paid Rs 10700 per month since the start of the current year. The strike was called off only after the management took the decision to hold a meeting with the disgruntled cleaning staff.
