Chennai: In a major drug bust last week , the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) nabbed a 35-year-old Colombian, a courier from an international drug cartel, from the Chennai airport with 2.35 kg of cocaine in its purest form. The drug, in possession of Edwin Enrique, is worth about Rs 11 crore in the international market. This is the single largest cocaine seizure in Chennai, said NCB officers.
The sleuths picked up Enrique, who arrived from Dubai, as he was coming out of the airport. Enrique claimed he was in India to impart professional boxing training. Investigations revealed he was acting at the behest of an international drug cartel operating from Bogota, say NCB sources.
In his luggage were 219 whiteboard marker pens, all stuffed with about 10g of the drug carefully packed in aluminium foils, instead of the ink core. In all, there were 22 packets with 10 pens each.
