Kozhikode: The authorities should take immediate steps for the development of the runway on Calicut International Airport at Karipur, a meeting political parties and voluntary organisations convened by Mayor A.K. Premajam has sought.
The airport was closed down for runway repairs on May 1. But the repair work is yet to start.
The airport is a transit point for Keralites going to the Middle East, and the number of passengers is increasing by the day. It is also a base for Hajj pilgrimage. The airport could not accommodate the heavy traffic due to space constraints, and hence the need for runway development.
