Kochi: The Special Investigation and Intelligence Branch (SIIB) of the Customs Department on Wednesday arrested two more ground handling staff of SpiceJet Airlines in connection with the gold smuggling incidents at the Nedumbassery airport.
So far, a total of 27 persons were arrested in connection with the case, in which gold was smuggled through the domestic terminal of the airport with the help of the ground handling staff, on many occasions.
The arrested persons have been identified as Rinshad, 26, of Perinthalmanna and Jeevan Nair, 24, of Perumbavoor.
They were instrumental in smuggling in 23 and 8 kg of gold, respectively, through the domestic terminal of the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL).
