Hajis opt for Saudi airlines this year

Ahmedabad: This year, Hajis from Gujarat will travel by Saudi Arabian Airlines instead of the national carrier Air India which drew complaints for running irregular service last year. The decision was recently taken by the Central Haj Committee (CHC) after the Gujarat State Haj Committee (GSHC) sent a letter saying that it did not want to use Air India.
Usman Patel, the secretary of the GSHC, said: "Last year Haj travellers from Gujarat faced a lot of difficulties as the services of Air India were not up to the mark. Often, flights were late and basic requirements such as blankets were not available for passengers."

An Air India official said, "To use our services or not is the prerogative of the CHC." Last year, Air India and Saudia had operated flights for Haj from Gujarat. This year Haj flights are likely to start by the end of August.
