KGS’s right to present airport details questioned

Pathanamthitta: Aranmula Heritage Village Action Council chief patron Kummanam Rajashekharan has called upon the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) attached to the Ministry of Environment and Forests not to invite KGS Aranmula International Airport Ltd., Chennai, to appear before the 149th meeting of the committee to be held in New Delhi on Friday.

In his letter to the EAC, Mr. Rajashekharan said KGS did not have any legal right to appear or present the details related to the technically and legally non-existing Aranmula greenfield airport project for finalisation of Terms of Reference for further consideration. Mr. Rajashekharan said the National Green Tribunal Bench in Chennai had already set aside the environmental clearance given by the Ministry of Environment and Forests to the proposed airport and restrained the proponent from carrying out any activities, constructional or otherwise, regarding the airport project.
The Supreme Court too dismissed all the appeals filed by KGS Aranmula International Airport Ltd. against the decision of the green tribunal on November 21, 2014. The Ministry of Defence has withdrawn the No Objection Certificate (NOC) given to the Aranmula greenfield airport on May 8, 2015, on account of non-compliance with the conditions that were imposed while issuing the NOC, he said.
