GVK CSIA, the company that manages Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd. (MIAL) has announced distributing 100 solar-powered LED lamps to the tribal inhabitants residing at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP). The initiative will immensely help the tribals, who ironically even though residing in such close proximity to a metro city like Mumbai, never had access to electricity till now. The LED lamps will also help the tribals fend off the potential threat from big cats in such areas due to the darkness.'
The initiative is also expected to benefit the young tribal children to pursue their studies during evening hours.
Till now the tribals who have meagre access to the necessities of life used kerosene-fuelled lamps which is not feasible over long-term due to economic implications to these households.
