Nashville should lobby India’s airlines to fly to BNA

Two news items coming out of India may present Nashville International Airport and Nashville’s economy with an unusual opportunity.

First, India’s national carrier Air India is looking to expand destinations in North America.

Media reports suggest that Air India might add as many as five new destinations in the U.S.

Second, Delhi and Mumbai airports in India may soon have preclearance facilities where U.S.-bound passengers will be able to complete their immigration, customs and agricultural inspections before boarding the North America-bound flights.

As a result, these passengers would arrive in the U.S. as domestic passengers and would be able avoid substantial time delays while expediting onward journeys to their final destinations.

Air India operates nonstop flights from New Delhi and Mumbai to large American cities like New York and Chicago.
