New aviation secretary takes stock of 'ailing' Air India

New Delhi: New aviation secretary R N Choubey has hit the ground running. On Saturday — a day after taking charge in the aviation ministry — he took a marathon five-hour-long review of Air India.

"This was the first review undertaken by the new secretary in aviation ministry and shows that AI will finally get some much-needed attention from NDA. The entire situation in AI was put before the secretary. He has promised the government's support to turning the airline around and is very positive about the airline," said a source.

AI was the first on Choubey's list as the airline's chairman for almost four years Rohit Nandan is going to be empanelled as secretary anytime now and then move on. The airline's most experienced finance hand, S Venkat, is also retiring in a few months.
